The Rhode Island Progressive League was formed as an outgrowth of a MoveOn.org House Party in Newport following the 2004 election.

The event was designed to provide MoveOn
with the chief concerns of supporters to assist in prioritizing future events and campaigns.

Through this exercise the shared concerns of the participants emerged, including but not limited to the issues of the war in Iraq, the larger issues of foreign policy, the assualt on civil liberties, economic injustice, irresponsible fiscal policy, erosion of environmental protections and the need for election reform.

Moreover, the group found a common desire to do more, both as individuals and as a group to defend the values we hold dear and preserve the essence of Democracy in our country.

The Rhode Island Progressive League [RIPL] was formed.
